照護失當　美退伍軍人事務部長辭職

美國退伍軍人事務部長新關健（Eric Shinseki）昨天辭職，為未能提供退伍軍人適當醫療照護的醜聞擴大而付出代價。由於新關健是美國的日裔第三代，日媒頗為關注此事，並稱讓歐巴馬政權受到打擊。

歐巴馬總統在白宮召開的緊急記者會中表示：「新關健部長不久前提出辭呈，我是在非常遺憾的情況下接受。」由於從亞利桑那州醫療院所爆發出來的退伍軍人醫療照護不周，後來延伸成為全國性的嚴重問題，外界對歐巴馬政府的政治責任追討聲浪日益升高，迫於政治情勢，歐巴馬也只能同意新關健辭職。

這項醫療照護遲延的醜聞，經調查後發現竟普遍存在於全國42個退伍軍人設施，甚至有患者等了一年以上仍得不到照顧，其中也發現許多偽造的醫療文件。此事已讓歐巴馬和民主黨在11月的國會大選中退居守勢。（國際中心／綜合外電報導）
