地球繞太陽自轉，每小時運轉速度高達1670公里，那麼如果有一天地球突然停轉，會發生什麼事呢？英國科學家史蒂文斯在YouTube上傳片段預演地球急停，影片顯示，如果這一刻真的得來臨，地球現在的一切都亂了套，人還會像高速子彈般飛來飛去。

環球網據香港《文匯報》報導，據報導，地球急停，會導致地心引力會集中在地球兩極，物體無法穩固在地面上，於是人類便會如同高速子彈般亂飛。在假設地球停轉的情景下，地球上刮起威力如核爆般的強風，摧毀一切;全球海水會重新分布，導致很多地區水災;地面所有事物會突然彈起，以時速1670公里亂飛;地球磁場會因停轉消失，人類會受電離輻射而死……，當然這一切純屬科幻橋段，美國太空總署(NASA)表示，『地球停轉』在未來數十億年發生的可能性基本是零。
