國際油價跌至數年新低，衝擊能源製造商，頁岩油鑽探的榮景可能步入危機。然而Charles Schwab公司分析師桑德斯（Liz Ann Sonders）指出，用簡單的數學概念，就能解釋油價下跌對美國好處何在。

消費者支出占美國國內生產毛額（GDP）的68%，油價與天然氣資本支出只占美國GDP的約1%、也不到美國總體資本支出的9%。而美國總體資本支出占美國GDP的約12%。

因此，低廉的能源價格雖然讓能源公司與能源資本支出叫苦連天，對消費者與多數企業而言卻是一大福音。
